Grażyna Zbijowska
The flautist trained with Stanisław Michalik, Aurèle Nicolet, William Dowdall, and Robert Dohn. She is laureate of national and international competitions.
After winning Second Prize Skene Award at the Music Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland, she performed in Adelaide at the final concert of the festival celebrating the 150th Anniversary of South Australia.
Grażyna Zbijowska was chosen by Krystian Zimerman to be the first flautist in his Polish Festival Orchestra, with which she toured the world. She has played in the most prestigious halls, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Royal Festival Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Berliner Philharmoniker.
As a soloist and a chamber musician, she has performed at the Warsaw Autumn, Warsaw Music Encounters Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, and Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival. She has worked with outstanding musicians, including John Axelrod, Grzegorz Nowak, Christoph Eschenbach, Irena Grafenauer, Mischa Maisky, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wojciech Rajski, and Tadeusz Wojciechowski.
The flutist has performed with the accompaniment of many Polish orchestras in music by J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, A. Vivaldi, S. Mercadante, J. J. Quantz, F. Danzi, K. H. Köper, and A. Ginastera. Her rich repertoire includes chamber works with piano, harp, and guitar.
She has also made numerous recordings for such labels as Sony Classic, Deutsche Grammophon, Tacet, DUX, and Accord.
Since 1995, Grażyna Zbijowska has been first flautist of the orchestra of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw. She also performs as a soloist with the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot and works with Sinfonietta Cracovia.
