Jan Wachowski

Pianist, chamber musician, and composer. In 2024, he graduated with distinction from the postgraduate Specialized Master in Piano programme at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Earlier, he completed – with distinction – his Master’s degree in piano under Elżbieta Karaś-Krasztel and Konrad Skolarski, chamber music studies under Łukasz Chrzęszczyk, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in composition under Paweł Łukaszewski at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He further developed his pianistic expertise – including period instruments – through numerous masterclasses.

Jan Wachowski is a laureate of multiple national and international piano competitions.

In 2023, he had the honour of performing in a joint chamber concert with Martha Argerich in the Concert Hall of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels; in September 2024, in the same city, he performed in the presence of the royal family during a jubilee concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chopin Foundation.

In 2025, he received a nomination for the Fryderyk Award in the category Album of the Year – Solo Recital for his debut album Hevel. Reflections in Polish Piano Works of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

As an orchestral soloist, he has collaborated with many renowned orchestras. He has given recitals, among others: at the Royal Łazienki Park during the 65th Jubilee Season of Chopin Concerts, at the Teatro Rossini in Bari, at Fryderyk Chopin’s Birthplace in Żelazowa Wola, at the Museum of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, at the Royal Palace in Wilanów, and at the Polish Embassy in Brussels. In 2025, he performed a series of Chopin recitals as part of the Chopin Effect programme organised by the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute.

He has been invited to international music festivals, including: Clasicissimo at the Royal Theatre in Brussels, Musicorum at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, the 13th Jerzy Waldorff Summer Music Festival in Radziejowice, and the 17th International Music Festival Pearl of the Baroque in Kobyłka.

For Polish Television, he recorded the music documentary Kolory Chopina (The Colours of Chopin), in which he appeared as pianist and narrator.

Since 2023, he has been a scholarship holder of the Chopin Foundation in Brussels. In 2023, he received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for artistic achievements. Previously, he was a recipient of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage scholarship Young Poland (2021), the Bechstein scholarship (2020), the Rector’s scholarship of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (2018), the National Children’s Fund (2017), and the International Morningside Music Bridge (MMB) scholarship (2016).

His most significant composition to date is his Piano Concerto, written in 2021. His Piano Quintet received first prize and the title Best Piano Quintet in 2017 at the 1st International Composition Competition Cum Laude Music Awards in Madrid. The work was recorded for Naxos on the CD In Crescendo by Daniel del Pino and the Habemus Quartet and was performed by them many times during the 2018/19 artistic season.
